Shannonwatch will join with other groups this coming weekend to protest against the presence of US President Trump in Ireland.

The organisation and its members have protested the presence of every US president to visit this island since the start of the century, including Donald Trump in his first term. However the litany of crimes committed by Trump and his US administration are particularly reprehensible. Foremost amongst those, and with direct links to Shannon Airport, is the ongoing funding of and participation in apartheid Israel’s ethnic cleansing, occupation and genocide of the Palestinian people. 

In addition, he is responsible for the assassination of the leaders of the Iranian government, and the death of at least 10,000 Iranian people due to US and Israeli attacks.

Trump is also responsible for the illegal kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and the effective overthrow of the Venezuelan government, threatening Greenland, and the illegal collective punishment of the Cuban people, 

He has continued to arm Israel throughout its deadly attacks on Gaza that have murdered over 73,000 people. And he has provided political cover for its illegal occupation of and attacks on southern Lebanon that have killed more than 3,000 people and forcibly displaced over one million.

This Trump presidency has been characterised by the undermining of international laws and global jurisprudence, and colossal damage to the global environment.

Furthermore, he has shown himself to be a racist, misogynist, transphobic rapist, and as such should not be welcomed to Ireland.

The vast majority of people in Ireland are fundamentally opposed to crimes against humanity and the environment. They stand with Palestine, and all oppressed peoples. We encourage them to make this clear by participating in peaceful protests against Trump over the coming weekend.

Shannonwatch will join with other groups and individuals at Shannon to protest from 1pm on Saturday 12^th September. We also fully support protests at Doonbeg where Trump will spend a large part of the weekend, and in Dublin on Saturday 12th..
